Police still aren’t sure why Natchez resident, Mark Allen, allegedly took his father’s life this week.
Allen, 44, was charged with murder Tuesday in the death of his 74-year-old father, James Allen.
&uot;I don’t know why he did it,&uot;&160;said Natchez Police Chief Willie Huff.
Allen is being held at the Natchez City Jail on a $50,000 bond.
He had been missing for several days prior to his father’s death Monday. Before his arrest, early Tuesday, Mark Allen barricaded himself in the basement of his parents’ house. Nine hours later, the stand-off with about 50 law enforcement officials ended.
Police have been talking with his family to get more clues into his behavior.
&uot; There had been (a) disagreement with some family members,&uot; Huff said.
Police are also looking into Allen’s past mental history.
He reportedly had stopped taking his medication to treat depression and based on family reports has a history of mental problem, Huff said..
Since being incarcerated, Allen has begun taking medication again.
&uot;We have the medication he says that he needs,&uot; said Huff, who would not comment on whether Allen had confessed to the crime.
His father was shot twice in the head and his throat was cut, Huff said.
Police are still awaiting final autopsy results and additional information on evidence they collected at the scene.
