Glory days. They are not just for the former high school dad watching his son run up and down the field.
Three former cheerleaders are enjoying watching their daughters show their spirit each Friday night.
The twist here is that the three mothers cheered together at Thomas Jefferson. All four daughters cheer at Adams County Christian School.
Deborah Peters, Kelly Robertson and Annette Mardis are the proud mothers of Katie Anders; Beth and Kim Robertson and Amy Mardis, respectively
Deborah graduated from Thomas Jefferson in 1975. She was a cheerleader as a freshman and senior and also played basketball.
&uot;I always liked cheering in the rain,&uot; Deborah said. &uot;We just got barefooted and cut up some more. You always remember the friends you made.&uot;
Deborah said cheerleading has changed.
&uot;They do a lot more gymnastics now,&uot; she said.
Katie, a senior, said her mom shares stories of what they did at pep rallies.
&uot;I love Friday night games the best,&uot; Katie said &uot;Making the signs is always fun.&uot;
Annette said she loved everything about cheerleading. She was a cheerleader as a freshmanm junior and senior.
&uot;I&160;loved the games, the pep rallies and the skits,&uot; she said. &uot;We did a lot of stunts, like a pyramid. There’s more flipping now.&uot;
Annette said her daughter loves the fact she cheered.
&uot;She thinks what we did is old-fashioned though,&uot; she said. &uot;Everybody said she’s a lot like me cheering, real bubbly.&uot;
Amy is a sophomore.
&uot;I talk to my mom about when she cheered,&uot; she said. &uot;I like the stunts and basketball season
Kelly cheered four years, graduating in 1976.
&uot;Cheering in basketball was always my favorite,&uot; she said. &uot;AC was our big rival. The gym was rocking with people screaming and hollering.&uot;
Kelly said she enjoys watching her daughters cheer.
&uot;They’re having fun and that makes for a good time for me,&uot; she said. &uot;Both of them really enjoy camp.&uot;
Beth said she enjoys cheering at football games.
&uot;Friday nights are a lot of fun,&uot; Beth said.
Kim is a freshman.
&uot;She keeps me on my toes,&uot; Beth said of her younger sister. &uot;I&160;don’t want her outdoing me.&uot;
Beth said she enjoys the fact her mother was a cheerleader.
&uot;I think she enjoys what we’re doing as much as we do,&uot; she said.
Kim enjoys the stunts.
&uot;You have to have a lot of faith if your co-cheerleaders,&uot; she said. &uot;But we all support each other.&uot;
