The Cathedral Green Wave’s game with the Loyd Star Hornets looked like it was going to be a good one, especially with a close score at halftime.
But the Hornets made sure that did not happen, scoring 21 unanswered points in the second half to defeat the Green Wave 40-12 in a key Division 6-2A game which was also the Hornets’ homecoming game.
The problem for the Green Wave defense was that it could not stop Loyd Star’s outstanding running back, Marcus Shannon, who ran the ball 17 times for 197 yards, including a 72-yard touchdown run with 8:40 left in the fourth quarter.
Overall, the Hornets had 41 carries for 261 yards. Robinson had 18 carries for 44 yards and a touchdown. JaMel Jackson had 10 carries for 44 yards.
Cathedral dropped to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in district play and will play a St. Andrews next Friday, while Loyd Star improved to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in district play and will play next Friday at Hinds AHS.
