JONESVILLE, La. – Two Miss-Lou residents died Friday following a head-on collision south of Jonesville.
Gerald &uot;Mike&uot; Wactor, 47, of Natchez and Clarence Riley Jr., 49, of Vidalia were traveling on Highway 124, 13 miles south of Jonesville,.
Around 12:45 p.m, Riley’s pickup truck, which was traveling north, slid into the opposite lane, striking Wactor’s truck, which was traveling south.
&uot;It was pretty much a head-on collision,&uot; said Sgt. Norman Karamales of the Louisiana Highway Patrol.
&uot;(It was) just about one and a half feet off.&uot;
Wactor was pronounced dead at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday.
Riley was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Highway Patrol does not know why Riley swerved his vehicle into the opposite lane.
The road is flat and straight at the location of the accident, and it was not raining, he said.
&uot;We don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the accident,&uot; Karamales said.
Neither victim is believed to have been wearing a seat belt, and both cars were totaled.
