Power will be the name of the game Friday night when Natchez (1-6) takes on Wayne County (3-4) in a Region 3-5A game.
The Bulldogs face a Wayne County team that relies on the run for the majority of their offense.
&uot;They have a 215 pound fullback who will carry the load,&uot; Natchez coach Elbert &uot;Mo&uot; Lyles said. &uot;They are a power offense that runs primarily off tackle plays.&uot;
Defensively, Wayne County isn’t known as a big team but as an experienced squad. &uot;We will need to play a solid game on offense because those guys will get after us,&uot; Lyles said.
The Bulldogs will be with out the services of Chris McDonald and David Ford. The two are still nursing injuries. Derrick Jarvis returns after sitting out last week.
Bulldog quarterback Carl Butler continues to play with a dislocated thumb that he suffered in the Provine game.
Butler ran for 142 yards in the Bulldog’s loss to Jim Hill last week. Wayne County defeated Jim Hill 27-7 earlier in the season.
&uot;Our objective is to go in there do a good job of execution and stop the power game,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;We need some points on the the board early.&uot;
The district game is important to Lyles and the team. &uot;We need to win the rest of our district games to keep our hopes alive,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;It will be a challenge but it is possible. To do so, we need to play a complete game on both sides of the ball.&uot;
