Vidalia jumped out to a 30-6 halftime lead and never looked back from there as the fifth-ranked Vikings crushed Crowville 57-6 in Crwoville Friday night.
The Vikings improved to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in District 3-2A. Vidalia hosts Ferriday next Friday for the district title in the regular season finale for both teams.
Ferriday defeated McCall 57-16 Friday to improve its record to 3-0 as well.
In a game in which the Vikings might be caught looking ahead to its annual showdown with Ferriday, Vidalia was doing anything but that against a Crowville team that defeated Vidalia’s junior varsity last year.
The Vikings had 409 total offensive yards, 219 yards rushing and 190 yards through the air.
The Viking defense held Crowville to a mere 61 total yards.
Dariel Mays led the Vikings’ running attack with 114 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns, three rushing and one receiving. Quarterback Jarrett Hoffpauir completed 11 of 14 passes for 190 yards.
Mays now has 1,870 yards on the season.
Vidalia scored twice in the first quarter on a 37-yard run by Hoffpauir and a 35-yard run by Mays.
Crowville scored its only touchdown of the game in the first quarter on a blocked punt in the end zone.
Vidalia scored twice again in the second quarter on a 19-yard pass from Hoffpauir to Mays and an eight-yard run by Mays to take a 30-6 halftime lead.
Vidalia scored two more touchdowns on a three-yard run by Leren Curry and a four-yard run by Mays.
In the fourth quarter, the Vikings scored on an 18-yard field goal by Ryan Boles, a 34-yard interception return by Terrell Williams and a 23-yard field goal by Boles.
Crowville dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in district play.
Crowville closes out its season against McCall next Friday.
