There’s no playoff spot on the line. But don’t tell Natchez or Forest Hill football players there is not a lot riding on the outcome of their game at Forest Hill Friday.
Both teams are 0-6 in Region 3-5A play and have only one win during the regular season.
&uot;We don’t want to be last,&uot; said Natchez High head football coach Elbert &uot;Mo&uot; Lyles.
Forest Hill is 1-8, while Natchez is 1-9.
&uot;They have a quarterback who does a real good job of making something happen,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;He likes to throw the ball. They also have a pretty good runner and nice-sized kids up front. They do a pretty decent job. They haven’t been able to put it together, for one reason because they have had several injuries.&uot;
Natchez High seniors playing their final game in a Bulldog uniform are tackle Michael Hamilton, defensive tackle Steven King, linebacker Don Jackson, lineman Bilal Assabor, fullback Cordell William, linebacker Justin Hutchins and defensive back Robert Whitley.
&uot;It’s been a rough season for them,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;I&160;would love to see them go out with a win, that would be something real positive for them. They’ll play hard.&uot;
Lyles will be without starting offensive lineman Michael Harris, who stretched a ligament.
&uot;We have to be able to execute and move the football,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;We have to be able to run and throw it. Defensively, we have to continue to eliminate mistakes and play aggressive. We’ve been improving, we just have to get better at what we are doing.&uot;
Natchez lost to Brandon 34-6 last week, while Forest Hill lost to Northwest Rankin 36-0.
