Centreville advances in 3A

Centreville Academy began its defense of the MPSA Class 3A state title with an impressive 40-0 win over Leake Academy in a first-round playoff game Friday night.
Matthew Tolbert had another outstanding performance for Centreville with 297 yards on 19 carries and four touchdowns.
Tolbert scored Centreville’s first three touchdowns of the game on a 44-yard run in the first quarter and runs of one yards and 21 yards in the second quarter.
B. J. Robertson scored on a three-yard run in the second quarter and a 34-yard pass from quarterback John Vincent.
Tolbert finished off the scoring with a 96-yard run in the third quarter.
Vincent completed six of eight passes for 154 yards and one touchdown. Rich Newman had three catches for 55 yards and Justin Simpson had two catches for 65 yards.
B. J. Robertson had seven tackles while Rob Robertson and Newman each had five tackles on a defense which held Leake’s offense to just 69 total yards.
Centreville improved to 9-3 overall while Leake finished the season with a 6-6 record.
