Forest Hill High School offensive lineman Michael Harris remained in stable condition at Central Methodist Medical Center in Jackson Monday.
Harris broke his neck in Forest Hill’s final contest of the year against Natchez High in Jackson.
&uot;He had surgery that was successful, but as of right now he has no feeling from the waist down,&uot; Forest Hill coach Reggie Rucker said Monday. &uot;Sometimes these things take a couple of weeks or a couple of months before they know the extent.&uot;
Rucker said he didn’t know exactly what happened on the play.
&uot;Michael is a good kid, real quiet,&uot; Rucker said. &uot;He hadn’t played a down until this year and he’s started every down this year as a senior. He’s just a good kid who gave no problems at school and had no problems academically. It’s just a real tragedy. It’s a coach’s nightmare.&uot;
According to an Associated Press report Saturday, Harris broke seven bones in his neck. Doctors replaced the fifth bone, which was crushed, and put in a titanium plate for stability.
