With the conclusion of an exciting 1999 Egg Bowl in Starkville Thursday, the Big-3 teams of Mississippi have completed a successful regular season.

Mississippi State sports a 9-2 record, Southern Miss is 8-3 and Ole Miss finishes the year with a 7-4 mark.

Of the combined 33 games that the schools played, there was only one loss to an unranked team. That loss was an early season victory by Vanderbilt over Ole Miss.

All schools are currently ranked in the Top 25 making Mississippi the only state with three ranked teams.

Each school should expect to go to a post season bowl.

Look for the Rebels to play in the Independence Bowl.

Representatives from the bowl were at the Egg Bowl. It would figure that the loser of the Egg Bowl is destined for a New Year’s Eve in Shreveport.

The Golden Eagles won Conference-USA title thanks to some trickery by Golden Eagles’ head coach Jeff Bower. The fake punt which started with Bower chewing out a player who was still on the field ended with a 26-yard gain. That allowed USM to kick a game-winning field goal.

The Golden Eagles will represent C-USA at the Liberty Bowl.

Bulldogs fans are happy their team rebounded from a two-game losing streak to defeat arch rival Ole Miss.

The Citrus Bowl seems to be calling Jackie Sherrill and the MSU Bulldogs. Sherrill hinted that the Bulldogs were headed to the Citrus.

There is still a possibility that the Bulldogs could go to the Peach Bowl if the Citrus doesn’t work out.

All teams could move up in the poll depending on their competition in the bowl games and how they perform in the post season.
