Lady Vikings prepare for tourney

VIDALIA, La. – Vidalia coach Lillian Johnson and the Lady Vikings were back to business Monday as they returned to the court for basketball practice.

The practice was interrupted a couple occasions to run laps in the gym due to bad ball-handling by her players.

&uot;We are real rusty from the holiday break,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;Although we played some games during Thanksgiving, we haven’t practiced in a week.&uot;

The teams practiced defense and worked on beating the press in preparation for this week’s Vidalia Invitational Tournament.

The tournament will begin Wednesday and run through Friday. Four game will be played each day by teams from the Miss-Lou. The games will begin at 4 p.m. each day.

The teams at the tournament will be Vidalia, Sicily Island, Newellton, Davidson and CM&I of Mississippi.

Johnson looks forward to another rematch with rival Davidson.

&uot;We have played them twice this year and split the games,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;We beat them earlier in the year and they beat us this week in overtime. The overtime loss really hurt. They are a fine team.&uot;

Johnson’s junior laden team currently sports a 4-1 record.
