Trinity sweeps at tourney

It was blowout night in tournament action Thursday as Trinity’s boys and girls, Huntington’s girls, Vidalia’s boys and Ferriday’s girls all had little trouble in first round play.
At the Pine Hills Round Robin in Gloster, Trinity’s boys used the 33-point performance by Bobby Craig to defeat Pine Hills 89-31.
Trinity led 46-25 at halftime.
Kris Thomson, Chad Ridley and John Bass added 15 points each for the Saints, who improved to 11-5.
In the girls contest, Pine Hills’ Raven Adams was the second-leading scorer in the contest.
Unfortunately for the Lady Wildcats, she was the only scorer for the host team as the Lady Saints walked away with a 69-11 victory.
Trinity had nine players contribute in their win, led by Ashley Kingsafer with 12 points.
Sarah Kirby and Jennifer Paradise added 10 points each, while Krista Cox tallied eight points and nine rebounds.
Huntington’s girls had eight girls in the scoring column as the Lady Hounds defeated Centreville 49-16.
Kathleen Elders led the Lady Hounds with 15 points, while Emily Hazlip added 13. Tiffany Ferguson scored four points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Huntington meets Trinity’s girls at 2 p.m., while the Huntington and Trinity boys face off at 3:30 p.m.
In the Sicily Island Tournament, Vidalia’s boys bounced back from its only loss of the season, a two-point setback to Natchez on Tuesday, to defeat Monterey 100-21.
Jarvis Vaughn led the Vikings with 33 points in three quarters of play.
Ronald Ellis added 17, while A.J. Warner, Derrick Johnson and Dariel Mays added 10 points each.
Monterey was led by Larry Jones with eight.
LaShawnda Pryor and Monique Jones combined for 37 points to lead Ferriday’s girls to a 64-48 win over Harrisonburg.
Pryor scored 21, while Jones added 16.
Harrisonburg was led byJamie Mills with 25 points.
Ferriday faces Vidalia in second round play today.
