The Natchez High School Choir will be serenading Mississippi’s new governor early this morning at the legislator’s breakfast, said NHS Choir Director Joyce Arceneaux.
After an evening rehearsal Monday night, the choir was set to pull out of Natchez at 4:45 a.m. today to get to the State Department of Education Building in Jackson by 8 a.m.
&uot;This is the second governor’s inaugural we’ve been invited to,&uot; Arceneaux said. The North Natchez High School choir performed for Governor Ray Mabus’ inaugural in 1988.
The choir will perform sacred music and perhaps one or two patriotic songs for an hour and a half program during the breakfast, Arceneaux said.
&uot;We will perform the bulk of our program when Governor Musgrove arrives,&uot; Arceneaux said.
The full choir will perform, she said, and then special ensembles will be spotlighted, including the Madrigal Choir, the Girls Choir, a Quartet, and the Male Ensemble.
The inaugural invitation to the NHS choir had been &uot;moving around&uot; during the upheaval over the disputed governor’s race in November, Arceneaux said.
The final invitation came after Mabus was confirmed as Governor by the Mississippi House one week ago.
&uot;We’re just very excited to have been invited,&uot; Arceneaux said. &uot;Of course, we think we are somebody now.&uot;
