Natchez City Clerk Frances Trosclair announced Tuesday that she will not seek reelection this spring.
In a press release, Trosclair said she had mixed feelings about her decision but is looking forward to change.
&uot;On the one hand, I will miss working with the Mayor and Board of Aldermen and the department heads in developing short term and long term fiscal management for the next four years,&uot;&160;Trosclair said. &uot;On the other hand, after nearly 30 years of public service, I look forward to spending more time with family and in pursuing other interests.&uot;
Trosclair has served two terms as city clerk.
The Board of Aldermen expressed regret at Trosclair’s decision.
&uot;Frances is probably the best city clerk in the state of Mississippi,&uot; said Aldermen George Harden. &uot;We’re going to miss (her).&uot;
Board members and other people, at the meeting, honored Trosclair with a standing ovation. Mayor Larry L. &uot;Butch&uot; Brown has served the past two terms with Trosclair.
He praised Trosclair for her financial management.
&uot;We always end the year with money in the bank,&uot;&160;Brown said.
In her release, Trosclair attributes the success of the city’s business office to the clerks who work in the office. She also thanked other city employees for what they do for Natchez.
&uot;My appreciation is endless for the city employees who work in rain, sleet, snow, icy conditions, 100 degree weather and emergency situations to protect our city,&uot; Trosclair said.
Her last day as city clerk will be June 30.
