Sara Greer scored 11 of her game-high 18 points in the second half as the Trinity Lady Saints advanced to the championship game of the MPSA District 6A Tournament with a 62-51 win over the Huntington Lady Hounds Friday night.
Greer was having a good first quarter with seven points before re-injuring her left ankle late in the quarter and did not play the rest of the first half.
When Greer returned, the Lady Saints (21-6) got back on track, especially in the fourth quarter, after a shaky second quarter which saw their lead cut from 11 after one quarter to eight at halftime, 27-19.
The Lady Hounds (10-18) outscored the Lady Saints 19-15 in the third quarter to cut the lead to four going into the fourth quarter.
That’s when Greer, Sarah Kirby and Becky Bass stepped up their performance to give the Lady Saints as much as a 13-point lead and to hold off a stubborn Lady Hounds team.
&uot;These girls have a lot of heart,&uot; said Lady Saints head coach Melanie Hall. &uot;They stepped up when they had to to get the win.&uot;
Greer also had six rebounds and two rebounds.
