Girls hoops making strong statement

Let’s hear it for the girls. And how about the state of girls basketball in the Miss-Lou?
Trinity Episcopal Day School’s Lady Saints coached by Melanie Hall are a team that has to be considered a threat to go a long way.
The best move Trinity has made in a while is hiring Hall and letting David King just handle the boys.
King was taking on the boys and girls and finishing football and that wasn’t fair to anyone.
Hall is a natural girls coach. First and foremost, she knows how to coach. Secondly, she knows how to motivate girls.
You can laugh, but I guarantee you there are a lot of coaches out there nodding their heads on that one.
The move has also helped King, who has been able to spend more time with the boys team and it shows. Trinity’s boys haven’t looked this together in a while.
Across town, the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels picked up their 20th win of the season (20-10) against Parklane Friday night.
The Lady Rebels are 6-4 in MPSA South AAAA, which is really impressive considering the competition.
AC&160;only lost to Jackson Prep 39-37 in Jackson, so the Lady Rebs certainly made a statement there.
AC faces Hillcrest Tuesday in the first round of the district tournament.
The Lady Rebels should advance, but any time you play somebody on their own court, you have to be a little concerned.
Natchez High’s girls are 3-2 in Division 6-5A play.
The Lady Bulldogs will have the home court advantage in the division tournament beginning Feb. 15.
Natchez has shown signs of coming on strong at times and could be a sleeper.
Cathedral High is 10-10, which is impressive when you look at the past few years and the fact that the Green Wave moved up in Class 2A this school year.
Cathedral has played some good teams close and could be another surprise.
Across the river, Lillian Johnson has the Lady Vikings cruising at Vidalia High.
The Lady Vikings are ranked in the Top 10 and just keep coming at you with tremendous pressure.
Despite having only one senior, Vidalia is a team to watch.
Down the road, Ferriday High is making some noise with freshman Monique Jones and a capable supporting cast.
Torisheka Taylor has been a pleasant surprise.
The Lady Trojans are another team that cannot be taken lighty.
Don’t be surprised to see two Concordia Parish teams fighting it out at the Sweet 16.
Then there’s Huntington. A team of freshmen and sophomores that took their beatings early in the year.
Certainly no one expected them to be playing Saturday in the consolation round of the MPSA 6A Tournament at Trinity.
And they certainly gave Trinity a run for its money.
Now it’s on to South State and any experience this young group gets will be valuable for the future.
The talent doesn’t stop there.
Robin Rae Burns and Tensas have proven they are formidable.
Shaquita Smith can and has been filling it up at Jefferson County for Natchez native Flora McKnight.
Longtime area coach Steve McClatchy has perhaps his best team this year at Davidson.
Franklin County’s girls seem to be coming into their own at the right time. It looks as if (pre) March Madness could have a definite feminine touch this year.
