Natchez High sophomore point guard Christen West has been a bright spot on a Lady Bulldog team that has had its ups and downs this season.

West said she enjoys playing basketball a lot, especially growing up in a basketball family.

Her brother, J. T. West, is a freshman at Alcorn State this season. Her father, James, also played basketball.

&uot;It’s been my life,&uot; West said.

West said her strong points are being able to see the court and her ball-handling skills.

Her best game of this season was against Ferriday on Jan. 18 when she scored 22 points. West is one of the leading scorers on the Lady Bulldog team.

As for the team’s chances to win the Division 6-5A Tournament, which Natchez High hosts starting next Tuesday, West said, &uot;We’ve been taken lightly since we’ve had a bad record this season. I feel we can go all the way.&uot;

West also said the team to beat in the girls bracket will be Provine.

The Lady Bulldogs are the Nio. 2 seed in the tournament and having the home-court advantage will definitely help.

&uot;We’ve had a lot of support from the fans this season. It’s nice to have the fans behind you,&uot; West said.

West said the three victories of Division 6-5A opponents Forest Hill, Jim Hill and Provine are the biggest wins for the Lady&160;Bulldogs this season.

As for her favorite basketball players, West said she has four: her father James, J. T., Phoenix Suns guard Jason Kidd, and the late &uot;Pistol&uot; Pete Maravich.

The Lady Bulldogs will likely play Jim Hill in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

West is looking forward to the experience and hopes to continue the season past the division tournament.

&uot;I just want to keep getting better and helping the team improve,&uot; West said.
