PGC announces pageant court

The Pilgrimage Garden Club announces its court for the 2000 Confederate Pageant.

Reigning as king and queen are Ashton Roy James and Anna Devereux Baker. Their pages are Madeline Marcantel Iles, Abigail Cole Dillard, Kyle Sinclair Weber, Brent Matthew Gaud\u00E9 and Steven Barlow Scarborough.

Sarah Kathryn Bonner, the daughter of Joe and Debbie Bonner. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Eyrich and Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Bonner, all of Natchez. Miss Bonner graduated from Daphne High School in 1997. She is presently attending University of Southern Mississippi where she is majoring in fashion merchandising.

At USM she is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority where she has served as social events chairman and she has served as assistant homecoming director for the student government association.

Miss Bonner has been a baseball diamond darling for USM for three years and she is also a member of Lambda Sigma honor society. Miss Bonner enjoys dancing, shopping and spending time with her friends and family. Her previous pageant participation includes Little Maypole.

Jessica Dixon Tippens, the daughter of Mabel Raworth Tippens of Natchez and Dennis Dixon Tippens of West Palm Beach, Fla. She is the granddaughter of Mabel C. Raworth and the late Malcolm D. Raworth and Margaret D. Tippens and William G. Tippens.

Miss Tippens attended Trinity Episcopal Day School until the 10th grade, then attended and graduated in 1997 from the Mississippi School for Math and Science. She is attending Tulane University where she is majoring in architecture.

While at Tulane Miss Tippens has been on the Dean’s list and also has been a recipient of the Tulane distinguished scholar award, and was a prior member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

Her hobbies include ballet, art, tennis, running and jogging. Her previous pageant experience includes being the flower girl in the Wedding of Jefferson Davis and the Can-Can in Under the Hill.

Julia Smith, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Danny Smith. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Smith of Natchez, Dorothy R. Way of Prosperity, S.C. and the late John R. North Jr. of Natchez. She is attending Copiah-Lincoln Community College where she is majoring in elementary education. Miss Smith is a member of Morgantown Baptist Church. She enjoys water skiing, hunting and working with young children.

Her previous pageant experience includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Polka and the Wedding of Jefferson Davis.

Leslie Paige Dollar, the daughter of Dick and Cynthia Dollar. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Premo Stallone Jr. of Natchez and the late Mr. and Mrs. Lester Dollar also of Natchez.

Miss Dollar is a 1997 honor graduate from Cathedral School. While at Cathedral she served on the homecoming court for two years, and was an All-Star member of both the Emerald Tide Drill team and the varsity cheerleaders. She served as class president and vice-president, lettered in basketball and earned school and district honors.

She served as batgirl for the Cathedral baseball team, and served as mentor for the high school retreat team. She was elected to the Cathedral Hall of Fame, was named the Most School Spirited of class for several years and received the Roy Garcia Award her senior year.

Miss Dollar presently attends Mississippi State University where she is majoring in special education with an emphasis on emotional and behavioral problems and learning disabilities. She is on the Dean’s list and has served as president of the Education Ambassadors. Also she has served as vice-president of the Dawg Paws. She is a member of the United Students Association, Alpha Lambda Delta, Phi Eta Sigma, Gamma Beta Phi, Lambda Sigma honor societies and was recently inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi the international honor society in education. She also participates in intermural sports.

Miss Dollar volunteers with handicapped students at the MSU Student Support Services. She has also served as a tutor with the Starkville school system and works as a secretary for several professors in the MSU agriculture-economic department. Recently Miss Dollar was selected as a Pink Rose for the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

She enjoys spending time with family and friends volunteering with special needs persons and groups. Her previous pageant experience includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole, the Picnic, Placard Bearer and the Polka.

Lacy Jane Latham, the daughter of Robert and Gina Latham. She is the granddaughter of Jack and Billy Greenleaf and Thurman and Willodene Latham, all of Eupora.

Miss Latham is a 1997 graduate of Cathedral School. She is presently attending Delta State University where she is majoring in computer programming.

She is member of Kappa Delta sorority and received the leadership scholarship, she is Panhellenic vice-president and involved in student government. Her hobby is rollerblading. Her previous pageant participation includes Little Maypole, flower girl in the Wedding of Jefferson Davis, Big Maypole and Polka.

Jonathan Wade Collier the son of Randy and Susan McIntosh and the late Wayne Collier Sr. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Orvis Marlow Jr., Florence Bankston and Harold McIntosh. He is a 1997 graduate of Cathedral School. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and is presently attending the University of Mississippi where he is majoring in history. He played basketball during high school. Mr. Collier enjoys hunting, fishing, and Nascar racing. His previous pageant experience includes American flag bearer.

Matthew Hayles Sandel, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Sandel. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Lovitt and Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Sandel all of Natchez. He is a1998 graduate of Cathedral School.

He is presently attending Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez and he plans on attending Mississippi State University in the fall. His college major is radiology. He was a member of Cathedral football and baseball teams, he lettered for 3 years in high school and was named All-District, All-Metro and best back in football.

He enjoys hunting and fishing. His previous pageant experience includes Little Maypole and as a substitute in the Confederate Court.

John Kaiser Harriss, the son of Richard and Pam Harriss. He is the grandson Mr. and Mrs. F. Levon Smith Jr. and Laura M. Bishop all of Natchez and of the late Richard Tompkins Harriss Jr. of Vidalia, La.

Mr. Harriss is a 1998 honors graduate of Trinity Episcopal Day School. He is presently attending Millsaps College in Jackson, where he has a double major of chemistry and mathematics. He is a member of the Millsaps Campus Ministry Team, Circle K and Beta Beta Beta. He is also a student affiliate of the American Chemical Society.

His hobbies include hunting, snow skiing, tennis, golf, fishing and water sports. Past pageant experience includes Page, Little Maypole, Big Maypole, Raising of the Flag, the Polka, the Soiree and he portrayed Jefferson Davis in the Wedding of Jefferson Davis.

Jeffrey Patrick Galloway the son of Pat Galloway. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Galloway of Ferriday, La., Shirley L. Walton of Vidalia, La., and Dr. and Mrs. Henry H. Walton of Russellville, Ark.

He is a 1998 graduate of Cathedral School and is presently attending Louisiana Tech University. His college major is pre-med.

Mr. Galloway is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, and is also an officer on the LTU interfraternity council. He enjoys hunting and fishing. His past pageant participation includes Little Maypole, Big Maypole Raising of the Flag and two years of the Soiree.

David Matthews Axelrod the son of Marsha Colson and Larry Axelrod. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Slatter of Natchez and Dr. and Mrs. Morris Axelrod of Delray Beach of Fla.

He is a 1998 of Trinity Episcopal Day School and he is presently attending Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He was also a National Merit Finalist in high school.

His hobbies include football and hiking. Past pageant participation for him includes the Polka and as a groomsman in the Wedding of Jefferson Davis.

Serving as Pages this year are:

Madeline Marcantel Iles the daughter of Greg and Carrie Iles. She is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. John McGee and Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Iles, all of Natchez. Miss Iles attends kindergarten at Trinity Episcopal Day School. She is a member of Pilgrimage Junior Garden Club and the Natchez Ballet Academy.

She enjoys ballet, art, cheerleading, reading, and playing with friends and her brother Mark. Her previous pageant participation includes Little Maypole.

Abigail Cole Dillard (Abby) the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel G. Dillard. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Cole Jr., Emma Dillard and the late G. W. Dillard, all of Natchez. Miss Dillard attends kindergarten at Cathedral School.

She is a member of St. Mary’s Basilica. Her hobbies include ballet, art, cooking and gardening. She is the winner of many blue ribbons at the Pilgrimage Garden Club flower show where she has also won the youth award in horticulture. She enjoys spending time with her older sisters, Meggie and Selah and her older brother Pate.

Kyle Sinclair Weber the son of Angie Riches Weber and Richard Weber. He is the grandson of Ronnie and Lani Riches, Evelyn Weber and the late Manny Weber.

Kyle is an active, happy 5 year-old. He is involved in soccer, baseball and karate.

Brent Matthew Gaud\u00E9, the son of David and Ann Gaud\u00E9. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ronald Gaud\u00E9 and Mr.and Mrs. Marion Lewis Vines all of Natchez. He is attending Cathedral school where he is in the first grade.

Brent attends St. Mary’s Basilica and is a member of the Natchez Swim team. He plays soccer and t-ball. His hobbies include fishing and hunting with his father and older brother Blase.

He also enjoys helping on the family Christmas tree farm, taking care of his dog, Pepper and he likes to watch and dress up like the cowboy, John Wayne. His past pageant participation includes Little Maypole.

Steven Barlow Scarborough the son of Dr. Bruce and Jan Scarborough. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Estess of Raymond and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scarborough of Jackson. Steven attends Cathedral school where he is in the first grade. He is a member of Trinity Episcopal church.

He enjoys riding his bike, collecting action figures, drawing pictures and swimming with his older sister Ginnie. He is also a student at Kathleen Mackey King’s Prep Music Studio.

Steven has participated in the pageant in the Little Maypole and has been a guest in the Wedding of Jefferson Davis for 3 years.
