ACCS ties, falls at ASC Tournament

Adams County Christian School tied Silliman 4-4 and fell to top-rated Central Private 8-4 on a seventh-inning grand slam at the Amite School Center Tournament Monday.

The games, which were played at Centreville Academy, were the first of the year for ACCS.

Against Silliman, Lee Watts doubled and singled and Ryan Davis doubled.

Ryan Porter started for the Rebels and went five innings, allowing four runs and seven hits.

Jason Wimberly pitched two innings, striking out five.

Christopher Rayborn faced one batter, retiring the Wildcat hitter with the bases loaded to preserve the tie.

Rayborn pitched the entire game against Central Private as the Rebels jumped out to a 3-2 lead.

Davis tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh with a double.

Josh Parker blasted a home run with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Watts singled and doubled in the second contest.

Hayden Wadsworth had two singles.

Rayborn struck out seven, walked two and allowed five hits.

&uot;We had our chances,&uot; said ACCS head coach Ryan Porter. &uot;It was anybody’s game until the bottom of the seventh.&uot;

ACCS faces Bowling Green today at 6:45 p.m. on Amite School Center’s home field.

Huntington wins opener

Huntington High’s baseball team picked up a win in its first outing as the Hounds defeated Brookhaven 8-6 in the Amite School Center Baseball Tournament Monday.

The Hounds had only three hits, with Cody Turnage collecting two singles and Luke Davis adding a single.

Trey Mason picked up the win for the Hounds, while Will Moak got the save.

&uot;It was good to get that first win,&uot;&160;said Huntington coach Greg Weatherly. &uot;We struggled in a few areas, but we figured we would do that in the first game. We made a few too many mental errors.&uot;

Huntington plays Amite School Center Saturday at 7 p.m.

Monterey still unbeaten

Monterey High improved to 4-0 on the season as the Wolves defeated Wisner 13-0.

The Wolves scored 10 runs in the first inning and cruised to the win.

A.J. Smith, Shannon Philley and Sandon Kemp each homered for the Wolves.

Smith and Philley also had two singles. Beau Barfoot doubled and had two singles.

Kemp also singled.

Chris Gatlin had two singles, while Phillip Bryan doubled.

&uot;It was a good game for us,&uot; said Monterey coach Hank Zizzi. &uot;We had no errors.&uot;

Winning pitcher Phillip Bryan faced 13 batters and gave up no hits.

Monterey will compete in the Harrisonburg Tournament beginning Thursday.
