Vidalia High had plenty of offense and needed it as the Vikings held off Winnsboro 16-12 Tuesday in Winnsboro.
&uot;It was ugly,&uot; said Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee Hoffpauir. &uot;It’s a good thing we had 14 hits, because we had about that many errors.&uot;
Kevin Laird led the Vikings at the plate with four hits in five at bats, including two doubles.
Rod Donald had three hits, including his sixth and seventh home runs of the season.
Matt Dillon, Ryan Boles and Bryan Bennett had two hits each, with Bennett collecting a home run.
Probst got the win in relief. Barry Bowden started the contest, while Stephen Welch came in for relief.
&uot;I don’t know if it was because we weren’t using our top pitchers, but our defense dropped fly balls, didn’t hawk them down and our infield booted ground balls and then threw the ball away when we got it,&uot; Hoffpauir said. &uot;We’ve got to play a lot better than this.&uot;
Vidalia hosts its own tournament beginning Thursday.
The tournament continues Friday and Saturday.
Strickland pitches 1-hitter
Vidalia High softball pitcher Amanda Strickland pitched a one-hitter to help the Lady Vikings defeat Rapides 15-0 Tuesday.
Strickland struck out six and had a no-hitter going with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning until Rapides broke it up with a single for its only hit of the game.
Maggie Dungan, who was 2-for-4 with 4 runs batted in, hit a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth for Vidalia.
Strickland also had a good night at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and 2 RBIs.
Jessica Marling went 4-for-4 with a triple.
Jenny Watson went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs, while Kristen Arthur had a triple.
Vidalia, 9-2, plays at Monterey on Thursday.
The Lady Vikings return home next Tuesday against Franklin County High.
AC pounds Pine Hills
Adams County Christian School’s baseball team collected 13 hits on its way to a 17-7 win over Pine Hills Monday.

Wadsworth and Mardis also added singles in the game.
Christopher Rayborn picked up the win in relief of Ty Smith.
&uot;Ty did a good job, but we didn’t play good defense behind him,&uot; said AC coach Chad Lipscomb. &uot;We made way too many errors. But we did hit the ball.&uot;
ACCS begins play in the Franklin Academy Tournament Thursday.
The tournament continues through Saturday. AC opens its home schedule Monday against Pine Hills.
