Jim Hill gets first-ever win over Natchez

Marcus Jordan doubled with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to give Jim Hill a 6-5 win over Natchez High here Friday.

It was the first-ever win for Jim Hill over a Natchez team.

&uot;We just got outplayed,&uot; said Natchez coach Michael Lindsey. &uot;Their pitcher (Chris Johnson) shut us down. We couldn’t hit the ball. We were fortunate to get four runs.&uot;

The loss dropped Natchez to 1-2 in Division 6-5A.

&uot;We’re at the stage where we need some help,&uot;&160;Lindsey said. &uot;And we have to win the rest of our division games.&uot;

Jim Hill scored two runs in its first at bat as Darryl Wilson walked, while Marcus Jordan and Derrick Singleton both singled.

Two Bulldog errors added to the rally.

Marques Kinds reached on an error and Brock Barlow doubled in Natchez’s first inning, but the Bulldogs came up empty.

Natchez, 6-9, got all its runs in the second inning as Beau Hale and Calvin Jackson started off the inning by reaching on walks. Leon Stewart singled with two outs and advanced on a throwing error.

Nolan Coward struck out swinging, but Jordan dropped the ball and missed tagging Coward, who ran to first. Jordan then threw the ball away and Coward raced all the way around to score.

Wilson walked to start off Jim Hill’s fifth and Johnson and Trey Rouser followed with singles to load the bases.

Jordan then hit the ball to deep left center field to unload the bases.

Lance Harveston replaced Coward on the mound and retired the final seven batters he faced, striking out six.

&uot;Lance threw well,&uot; Lindsey said. &uot;He had a week layoff, and that really helped him.&uot;

Johnson held Natchez to two hits, Barlow’s double and a single by Coward.

&uot;Chris is finally getting his rhythm down,&uot; said Jim Hill head coach Greg Wilson. &uot;He did a real good job on the mound.&uot;

Jim Hill improved to 3-10 and 1-2 in Division 6-5A&160;play.

&uot;We had a rough time at the beginning of the year because we had some guys out on a senior trip,&uot; Wilson said. &uot;Even today we had two guys out with injuries, but we had some freshmen come through.&uot;

Natchez plays at Provine Tuesday in another division contest.
