Vidalia baseball, softball teams cruise past Ferriday

FERRIDAY, La. — Vidalia High senior Kevin Laird held Ferriday High to one hit, while striking out 11 and walking one as the Vikings defeated the Trojans 16-0 Wednesday.

Vidalia improved to 14-7 overall and 2-0 in District 3-2A.

Ferriday fell to 2-2 and 0-2 in district.

Laird, 3-1, faced one batter over the minimum after picking off one runner.

Offensively, Ryan Boles and Adam Probst had two home runs each for the Vikings.

Boles, who had five RBIs against Ferriday Wednesday, has four home runs in his last two games, hitting two against McCall Saturday.

Jarrett Hoffpauir and Trey White also homered for the Vikings, who collected 12 hits in the contest.

Probst and Hoffpauir also singled with their home runs, while Collin Taunton and Bryan Bennett both doubled.

The win was the sixth shutout victory of the year for Vidalia.

The Vikings host district foe Block today at 4 p.m. in a junior varsity contest and 6 p.m. in the varsity game.

Stricklin leads Lady Vikes

Vidalia High softball pitcher Amanda Stricklin tossed a four-hitter and hit a home run as the Lady Vikings routed Ferriday 18-2 Wednesday in a District 3-2A game in Vidalia.

Jessica Marling went 2-for-2. Jenny Watson was 2-for-3 with 7 RBIs.

Heather Miller and Jaci DeWeese also went 2-for-3 for Vidalia with a double.

Stricklin also had 2 RBIs.

The Lady Vikings improved to 19-2 overall and 4-0 in District 3-2A play.

Vidalia hosts Winnsboro today at 4 p.m.
