Some of Mississippi’s most renowned gospel singers will perform in Natchez tonight. The &uot;Canton Spirituals&uot; from Canton, who are currently No. 1 on the gospel chart, will be in concert at 7 p.m., at Christian Hope Baptist Church, at 301 LaSalle St.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with tickets available at the door for $14.

Mary Griffin, a local promoter of the concert, said 800 tickets have already been sold.

&uot;They’re a very anointed group — a very spiritual group,&uot; Griffin said. &uot;You can really feel the spirit in them.&uot;

The group formed about 30 years ago, and they have traveled the world singing, Griffin said.

The public is invited to attend.

&uot;You do not want to miss your blessing,&uot;&160;Griffin said.

Several other groups — Men of Praise, of Natchez, the Jefferson County High School Choir and the Veals Brothers — will also perform at the concert.

Griffin, who is employed at WTYJ, a gospel and blues radio station, has a background in promoting gospel events through an organization called Promoter 2000.

&uot;I like putting on gospel events to bring people together,&uot; she said.

She thinks the music is a great way to &uot;feed souls&uot; in a non-intimidating environment.

&uot;People can get saved through gospel songs,&uot; she said.

The Canton Spirituals contacted her in January because they wanted help in promoting a concert for Natchez.

In the past few weeks, she has publicized the event throughout the surrounding area.
