Vidalia High’s softball team will be hosting a playoff game for the first time in five years when the Lady Vikings face Sibley Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Vidalia softball field.
Admission to the game is $4.
&uot;It’s nice to have that first one at home,&uot; said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. &uot;Now we have to do well enough to get to the next round.&uot;
Vidalia finished 21-2 in the regular season and 5-0 in District 3-2A play.
Sibley is a wild card team out of District 1-2A where they finished 8-4.
&uot;They are not a normal wild card team,&uot; Parnham said of Sibley. &uot;Just over a week ago they were in a four-way tie for first place and one loss dropped them to fourth. They have pretty good pitching and hit the ball well.&uot;
Parnham said the Lady Vikings need to stay focused at this stage.
&uot;We have to go out and play our game,&uot; he said. &uot;We’re at the point where one loss ends your season. We have to pay attention and do the things we do best. We have to get after people. We can’t overlook anybody at this stage. We have to play every game like it’s our last.&uot;
Block High, which finished third in District 3-2A, will play at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte, La.
Crowville, the second place team out of the district, hosts Springhill in a first round game.
Vidalia defeated Crowville in Crowville and the two teams were tied at 0-0 in the sixth inning in a game here that was rained out twice after being suspended by rain.
Because Vidalia defeated Crowville the first time, the Lady Vikings were named district champs.
If Vidalia wins, the Lady Vikings will face the Farmerville-North DeSoto winner in the second game.
The Block-Sacred Heart winner will face the winner of the Erath-Newman contest.
In Class B, Monterey host Pine Prairie in a first round contest with the winner taking on the Weston-Stanley victor.
