Vidalia High surprised everyone by making it to the Class 2A state softball tournament two years ago.
Now as the District 3-2A champion, the Lady Vikings are hoping for a return visit to Alexandria, La.
For that to happen, Vidalia will have to get past North DeSoto. The two teams meet at Vidalia High’s Adult Softball Park today at 4 p.m.
&uot;We’ve got six seniors who have been to the quarterfinals and know what it feels like,&uot; Parnham said. &uot;So they know what’s ahead.&uot;
Vidalia defeated Sibley 7-2 Tuesday, while North DeSoto eliminated Farmerville 5-3 in its first round contest.
&uot;North DeSoto has a sound team,&uot;&160;Parnham said. &uot;They are not a flashy team and they don’t have anybody who stands out. But they don’t make errors and they are going to put the ball in play. They’ve got a couple of girls with power. They are the type of team that will not do anything to hurt themselves. They’ll put the pressure on us.&uot;
Parnham said North DeSoto’s pitcher has an average fastball, but does a good job of placing her pitches.
&uot;She’s more of a control-type pitcher,&uot; he said. &uot;She hits her spots real well. She doesn’t walk many. And she’ll throw the change-up at any time.&uot;
Parnham said as well as the Lady Viking defense and pitching was Tuesday, it will have to be even better today.
&uot;I thought we hit the ball good enough to win the last game, but we have to come out really smoking against North DeSoto,&uot;&160;he said. &uot;And we have to have another solid performance from our defense.&uot;
The winner of today’s game will face Ouachita Christian, which beat Christian Life 1-0 Thursday.
Vidalia enters today’s game with a 22-2 record.
The Lady Vikings went undefeated in district.
