Trinity falls to Amite School Center

Amite School Center’s varsity softball team opened up a close game with seven runs in the sixth inning and held on for a 12-6 win over Trinity Monday at the Natchez Girls Softball Complex.
&uot;We haven’t touched the softball since last Tuesday,&uot; said Trinity assistant coach Rick Kirby. &uot;We’ve had so much going on and we had the rain. We were rusty and it showed for a while. But Amite has a good team. They hit the ball and play good defense.&uot;
Megan Seay went the distance for the win for the Lady Rebels despite giving up 17 hits.
Amber Huff suffered the loss for Trinity, giving up 20 hits.
Huff went 3-for-4 with three singles at the plate.
However, only one of the 17 hits by the Lady Saints went for extra bases – a lead-off double by Sarah Kirby in the first inning.
ASC scored two in the first inning.
Elise Dixon hit a lead-off single and scored on a one-out double by Crystal Travis, who scored on a Mindy Seay single.
Travis went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs while Dixon went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Mindy Seay went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs.
Trinity answered with two runs.
Kirby doubled and scored on a Haley Hinton single. After Hinton was thrown out at second base, Dottie Smith singled and later scored on a Shay Netterville fielder’s choice.
The Lady Rebels scored two runs in the top of the third inning.
Dixon singled, moved to third on a Brooke Harden single and scored on a Travis single. Harden moved to second on Travis’s single and scored on a Mindy Seay double.
Trinity had a chance to score in the bottom of the fourth inning with the bases loaded and two outs after Krista Mophett and Leslie Petty singled and Lauren Harper reached first on an ASC error. But the Lady Saints were unable to score.
ASC scored seven runs in the sixth.
Kelly Cummings singled to move Megan Seay to third and Wall to second. Dixon then singled.
Trinity scored one run in the sixth when Netterville singled and later scored on a Harper single.
Trinity scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Hinton and Smith hit back-to-back singles and scored on a one-out single by Sara Greer, who later scored on a Netterville sacrifice fly.
Trinity hosts Parklane today at 4 p.m.
The Lady Saints will compete in the South A State Tournament Saturday at Huntington High in Ferriday, La.
