Natchez High’s football team ends three weeks of spring drills today with a scrimmage at Wilkinson County High.
The game is slated for 7 p.m. in Woodville.
&uot;We’re going to be looking at our offensive line and see how well they execute and our defensive line and the entire defense, as well,&uot; said Natchez High head coach Elbert &uot;Mo&uot; Lyles.
Incoming senior quarterback Donald Butler has been involved in track, so incoming junior Tyrone Good will be calling the signals.
Senior-to-be running back Roderick Conners has also been competing with the track team.
&uot;Tyrone has been getting the reps and we know what Donald can do,&uot; Lyles said.
Incoming freshman Brian Williams will start at tailback, while incoming senior Chris McDonald will be fullback.
&uot;Brian has been holding his own,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;We’ll have a few new faces. Most of our kids have gotten some experience, but we do have a lot of new faces.&uot;
Lyles said he has 85 players out this spring.
&uot;The competition has been good for the team,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;We’re excited about what we’ve accomplished.&uot;
Natchez High will begin fall drills the first week of August.
&uot;We expect most positions to be in tact,&uot; Lyles said. &uot;We may have some guy move in, but for the most part we’ll have our positions set. We’ll go back and evaluate the spring game.&uot;
The Bulldogs open their season with a home game against Jefferson County on Aug. 25.
The Bulldogs host Gulfport High the following Friday before going to Vicksburg the following week.
