The state continued to argue its case Thursday in the second day of the murder trial of Natchez resident Brenda Reynolds.

Several officers with the Natchez Police Department, a medical doctor who performed the autopsy on the victim, an official with the state crime lab and the defendant’s brother all took the stand Thursday.

The state decided against calling Vifran Carter, a former jail mate of the defendant’s, to the stand Thursday despite initially saying that Carter heard Reynolds confessed to the murder.

District Attorney Ronnie Harper said the state would make a determination today about whether to call additional witnesses before resting its case.

Reynolds, 32, is standing trial this week for the July 1999 shooting death of her boyfriend, Larry Holiday.

Officials believe she shot Holiday in the chest, arm and leg last summer at his apartment at 573 West Stiers Lane.

When police arrived at the scene that night, they met Reynolds outside the apartment, and she told them someone had assaulted Larry. Police later found the victim slumped against the inside of his apartment door.

At the time of the incident, Reynolds told police she had just walked into Holiday’s apartment with him when she heard a loud bang. She then heard Holiday call her name before he fell to the floor.

The trial will resume today at 8:30 a.m.
