Willams signs with Coahoma Community

VIDALIA, La. – Vidalia High senior Brittnay Williams always dreamed of playing college basketball. But the 5-foot-3 point guard never realistically expected the get that chance.

Williams’ dream came true Friday when she signed a scholarship with Coahoma Community College.

Coahoma head coach Shirley Artis made the trip from Clarksdale to sign Williams.

&uot;I didn’t expect to sign with anyone, although I thought I deserved to,&uot; Williams said. &uot;I’ve worked hard for four years. I tried my best to push our team to a state championship, even though we didn’t make it. I know they can go far next year.&uot;

Williams was the lone senior on a team that won the District 3-2A title before losing to Many in the first round to finish the season at 25-7.

Williams played point guard.

&uot;I like point guard,&uot; Williams said. &uot;I&160;like giving the ball up and getting assists. I try to be a good leader and help the team to do its best to win. I try to motivate my teammates and they motivate me.&uot;

Williams said she has to work on her shooting.

&uot;My strong suit is handling the basketball,&uot; she said.

Williams, who plans on studying nursing, said she is going to work on her game this summer.

&uot;I know it’s going to be tough at the next level, but I’m going to be as ready as I can to play.&uot;
