The team of Brian Campbell, Mike Mooring, Brian Tucker and Scott Leblanc shot a 58 to win the Memorial Day Breakfast Scramble Monday at Beau Pre Country Club by one shot.
In 1999, 60 players competed in the tournament. This year, the number jumped up to 95 players.
Last year, when the tournament was played at Belwood Country Club, the winning team of Paul Sparks, Mike Haley, Steve Comeaux and Steve Elliott had a 62.
This year, the first year for the tournament at Beau Pre, a total of six teams bettered that score.
The winning foursome had seven birdies on the front nine and five birdies and an eagle on the Par-5 10th hole.
&uot;We did alright,&uot; Leblanc said. &uot;We didn’t hit the ball off the tee real well, but we managed.&uot;
Two teams tied for second with a 59 – Kevin Smith, Sammy Gore, David Heard and Charles Johnson and Woody Allen, Jake Middleton, Bazzille Lanneau, Page Ogden and Pete Buttross.
&uot;I’m the oldest guy out here playing golf,&uot; Buttross said. &uot;I’m 80 years old.&uot;
Buttross and his teammates had seven birdies on the front nine and six on the back nine.
The team of Tom Geoghegan, Frances Meason, Hal Hicks, Billie Auld and Jean Daigre finished in fourth place with a 60.
&uot;It’s fantastic,&uot; Daigre said about the golf course. &uot;It’s comparable to some of the finest courses I’ve played on.&uot;
