FAYETTE -Jefferson County officers are still gathering details on a Sunday afternoon shooting that led to the death of one man and the arrest of a Natchez resident.
Levi Thompson, 49, of Natchez was being held at the Jefferson County Jail Monday, charged with shooting Edgar White Jr., 65 , once in the neck with a .380-caliber pistol.
Jefferson County Sheriff&160;Peter Walker said he is still trying to determine a motive but &uot;there was a disagreement between the two parties.&uot;
Thompson is the boyfriend of the deceased man’s daughter, Walker added.
Thompson and White are also neighbors. The shooting took place at about 2 p.m. outside White’s home on White’s Road, near the Natchez Trace.
In addition to the gun believed to be the murder weapon, officers also recovered a second weapon – a 22.caliber pistol that may have belonged to the victim, Walker said.
Officials are as of yet uncertain as to how the second weapon factored into the shooting.
The girlfriends of both the victim and the suspect witnessed the shooting and are still being interviewed., Walker said.
&uot;Everybody’s pretty upset right now,&uot; Walker said. &uot;I do need to continue to talk with (the witnesses).&uot;
Self-defense is a possibility, but Walker said he can not be sure of that yet.
White was pronounced dead at the scene and Thompson turned himself in shortly after the shooting.
He is being held on charge of murder and should have his first court appearance today in Jefferson County Justice Court.
