The ninth Annual Kids Fishing Day will be taking place at the Clear Springs Recreation Center on June 3 beginning at 7 a.m.
Karen Brent, who will be in charge of the event, said that the amount of peole who have been participating has grown each year.
&uot;Clear Springs Recreation Center is about four miles east of Roxie,&uot; said Brent, who has been organizing the event for the last six years.
&uot;Last year we had about 250 people come out, different families and stuff, so this year we hope to have at least that many,&uot;&160;Brent said.
Brent said the lake is stocked with roughly 300 pounds of catfish before the day’s events begin.
&uot;Prizes are given out for things like most caught, biggest fish caught, oddest catch, and things like that,&uot;&160;she said.
The prizes will be handed out around 10 a.m.
Prizes include fishing poles, tackle, tackle boxes, a savings bond. A mystery prize will also be given away.
&uot;This is just a way to get the youth interested in fishing and the outdoors,&uot;&160;Brent said.
&uot;That’s our main objective, to get kids outside, and teach them about the outdoors and fishing and things of that nature.&uot;
&uot;We’ve received wonderful support from the surrounding areas. Roxie, Bude, Meadville, Natchez, McComb, and many others have contributed to getting the word out and letting the public know about what’s going on.
&uot;Our main goal is to get kids hooked on fishing.&uot;
This year’s Kids Fishing Day is in partnership with the Mississippi Wildlife Parks and Recreation Association.
