FERRIDAY, La. — A Concordia Parish Correctional Facility prisoner, a member of the facility’s choir, escaped Sunday afternoon when he set up equipment for a choir function at the Church of the Divine Prophecy in Ferriday, then took off running.
Two deputies supervising the choir ran after Ishmael Green, 30, address unavailable, and even jumped two fences in an attempt to catch the escapee, but he outran them and got away, said Sheriff Randy Maxwell. Green had not been captured as of Sunday night.
Maxwell described Green as a well-behaved, religious man who was in prison for a probation violation and had only one year of his sentence left to serve.
&uot;I don’t know what got into him,&uot; Maxwell said, adding that Green is not considered dangerous. &uot;He just walked off.&uot;
The choir had booked several other singings for the next couple of weeks, but those programs won’t be held now, Maxwell added.
&uot;That program is shut down until we can find out what exactly went on and how it can be prevented in the future,&uot; he said. &uot;We’ll review our policy.&uot;
