United Mississippi Bank used an eight-run second inning, including a three-run home run by Te Riley, on its way to a 12-6 win over David New Wednesday in a Dixie Boys 13-14 game at the Dixie Boys Field.

With the win, UMB moved into a first place tie with Coca-Cola. However, UMB has defeated Coca-Cola twice in head-to-head competition, once by a forfeit.

&uot;I pitched good in the first inning and I lost it in the second,&uot; winning pitcher Te Riley said. &uot;Fortunately, Drew Burns came in and pitched good in relief.&uot;

UMB scored three runs in the top of the first inning.

UMB then exploded for eight runs in the top of the second on six hits.

After singles by Jake Williams and Dustin Case, Riley hit a home run over the center field fence.

&uot;The first at-bat I had a double and the second time I figured he (starting pitcher Preston Hicks) would throw a strike and I hit it,&uot; Te Riley said.

&uot;I felt real good,&uot; Williams said. &uot;I was very surprised I got to bat twice in the second inning. I’m glad I hit it by him (reliever Matthew Henderson).&uot;

Williams went 2-for-3 with the double and two RBIs.

But, David New (3-9) got to Riley by scoring five runs in the bottom of the second.

David Hood singled and scored when Russell Barmer walked with the bases loaded. Ward Bruce scored on a single by Mitchell Nerren.

John Paul Kenda, Barmer and Nerren each scored on wild pitches.

&uot;The pitching let us down a little bit,&uot; said UMB head coach Jimmy Riley.

United Mississippi scored one run in the top of the third off Burns when Barnes singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Burns allowed only one run and one hit, struck out three and walked two in 2 2/3 innings.

David New scored one run in the bottom of the third when Nerren singled in Kenda, but it was not enough.

Hicks took the loss for David New, giving up 11 runs on 10 hits and striking out two in 1 1/3 innings.
