FERRIDAY, La. – More razor wire has been installed on the fence of the recreational yard at the Concordia Parish Correctional Facility after an attempted escape Thursday, Warden Russell Butler said Monday.
In addition, those who attempted the escape — Tyrone Banks and Tony Banks, 23, of Memphis, and Stanton Eugene Easley, 41, of Nashville — are now in a locked-down part of the prison.
They were being taken to the recreational yard at 1 p.m. Thursday by an officer when they climbed the yard’s fence, jumped onto the prison roof and jumped off the roof. Two guards in the facility’s tower spotted the men, who were tackled by corrections officers, said Sheriff Randy Maxwell.
The three, along with 21-year-old Antonio Hawkins of Vidalia, were arrested April 3 for robbing Pizza Hut in Vidalia on April 2 and Ezy Pay Furniture in Ferriday on April 3. The men allegedly used machine guns to rob the businesses. They pleaded not guilty May 24 in Seventh Judicial District Court to armed robbery and several other charges in connection with the incidents.
On April 9, trusty Pablo Menendez walked away from the Correctional Facility’s recreation yard. He has still not been found.
Then on June 4, inmate Ishmael Green fled on foot from his prison choir group after helping set up equipment for a performance at Deliverance Temple Baptist Church.
Green attempted to steal a car and threaten a Seventh Street resident into giving him a ride to another location but turned himself in to Chaplain Mark Richardson at the church early the next morning.
