Natchez High School will be the site of this weekend’s USA&160;Track and Field Invitational, which is being directed by Natchez High track coach Henry &uot;Doc&uot; Woods.
The meet will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday and last until 5 p.m.
&uot;This is just going to be kind of a fundraiser for all the athletes that are trying to make it to regionals and nationals,&uot; Woods said.
&uot;We’re hoping for a good crowd, so we can send these kids to Nashville, Tennessee (Regional Track Meet) and Buffalo, New York (National Track Meet).&uot;
The cost is $3 for admittance to the track meet this Saturday.
The meet will have events for athletes from age 4 to 18 years of age.
&uot;We’re going to have some highlight athletes at this year’s meet,&uot; Woods said.
Janice Davis of Natchez who recently qualified for the International Track Team, which will be running in Montreal, will be participating in this weekend’s events.
Otis Harris, of Utica, will also be on hand to partake in the meet this Saturday.
Harris is also a member of the International Team, and won the Mobile Classic and the Foot Locker Invitational in Raleigh, North Carolina earlier this summer.
&uot;We are now at the point where a lot of the athletes around here and that will be at the meet this weekend, are ready to move on to compete on a global level,&uot;&160;he said.
Woods also said there will be open events for local participants who are 18-and-over.
