Natchez T.M. Jennings captures District 9-10 title over Hattiesburg

The Natchez All-Stars took advantage of a nine-run third inning and a combined two-hitter from Kendall Logan and Travis Isaac for a 15-3 win over Hattiesburg Sunday at Ballew-Bowlin Field to win the T. M. Jennings 9-10 District 1 All-Star championship.

The game ended after four innings of play due to the 10-run rule, which was a good thing because rain started to fall moments after the game ended.

Natchez got 10 hits and 12 walks off three Hattiesburg pitchers.

&uot;They’re ability to have attitude, knowing their job and teamwork made the difference,&uot; said Natchez All-Stars head coach Larry Woods. &uot;Everybody stepped up today.&uot;

Eleven of the 12 Natchez players who went to the plate got on base during the game.

Logan was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs and one hit while striking out two and walking three in one inning.

Natchez started off the game by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, led by RBI singles by Dewong Hughes after Jermaine Albert hit a lead-off triple.

Hattiesburg scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, led by Mario Hooker’s RBI triple.

Natchez then added three more runs in the top of the second. Two of those runs came on RBI singles by Logan and Fredonandus Frye.

Isaac then came on in relief of Logan and struck out five of the six hitters he faced and walked only one in the next two innings.

Isaac ended up allowing one run and one hit and walking three in three innings.

&uot;I felt good,&uot; Isaac said. &uot;I did my best to help the team win. I had my changeup and fastball working for me.&uot;

&uot;It was excellent pitcher,&uot; Woods said. &uot;They (Logan and Isaac) let no obstacles get in front of them.&uot;

Natchez then put the game out of reach with its nine-run third inning.

Isaac and Garrick Johnson each hit two-run singles. Johnson later stole home to score.

Elbert Hughes had an RBI fielder’s choice.

Two runs scored on wild pitches and another scored on an error.

Hattiesburg scored one the bottom of the fourth when Daniel Lee singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

Natchez’s T.M. Jennings team. will next play in the state tournament beginning on July 22 in D’Iberville.
