James C. Kinney

MONTEREY, La. – Graveside services for James C. Kinney, 55, of Ferriday who died Friday, July 28, 2000, in Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at White Family Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Taylor officiating.

Burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Kinney was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Ferriday.

He was a heavy equipment operator and a graduate of Ferriday High School.

Mr. Kinney was preceded in death by his mother, Adelle W. Kinney.

Survivors include one daughter, Leigh Kinney of Gonzales; one son, James C. Kinney Jr. of Gonzales; one step-daughter, Leslie Jean Kinney of San Antonio, Texas; his father, Calvin Kinney of Ridgecrest; three sisters, Minnie Dell Tiffee and Ann Richards of Monterey and Virginia Roberts of Ferriday; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Almena Kilbourne Whitaker Major

–January 14, 1931 – July 28, 2000

WOODVILLE – Services for Almena &uot;Pat&uot; Kilbourne Whitaker Major, 69, of Baton Rouge, La., who died Friday, July 28, 2000, in Baton Rouge, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. with Rev. Don Russell officiating.

Burial will be at the family cemetery, Magnolia Plantation near Woodville under the direction of Berryhill Funeral Home.

Visitation will be at the Woodville United Methodist Church from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Mrs. Whitaker was born January 14, 1931, in Woodville, the daughter of John and Mary &uot;Mamie&uot; Woods Whitaker.

She was a housewife and was Methodist.

She was preceeded in death by her parents, John Whitaker and Mary Woods Whitaker.

Survivors include her son James Donald Major, Jr., Baton Rouge; one daughter Susan Major Holmes, Baton Rouge; three sisters, Antoinette W. Jackson, St. Francisville, La.; Mary W. Chapman, Baton Rouge, and Lillian W. Netterville, Woodville; three brothers, Tommie O. Whitaker, John Whitaker and Richard Whitaker all of Woodville; and three grandchildren.

Cleo Ratcliff

–April 22, 1910 – July 28, 2000

Services for Cleo Ratcliff, 90, of Franklin County, who died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Beacham Memorial Hospital in Magnolia, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation is from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ratcliff was born April 22, 1910, in Franklin County, the daughter of Harvey and Ella Nettles Wilson.

She was a homemakers.

Mrs. Ratcliff was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Sam C. Ratcliff.

Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Davis, Natchez, Pauline Langley Cowart, Smithdale, and Annie Brent, McComb; one great-grandchild and nieces, nephews.

Grover Jackson Elliot

JONESVILLE, La. – Services for Grover Jackson Elliot, 85, of Jonesville, who died July 28, 2000, in the Columns Nursing Home of Jonesville, will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, at Liberty Worship Center of Jonesville.

Visitation is today from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.

He was a farmer.

Mr. Elliot is survived by two sons, Cliffor Ray Elliot of Jena and Grover Wayne Elliot of Wildsville; three brothers, Hiram Elliot of Eldorado, Ark., Charles Haywood Elliot of Plain Dealing, Ark. and Bobby Ellito of Eldorado, Ark.; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
