Jennie Youngblood MADISON – Memorial services for Jennie Youngblood, 86, of Ridgeland, who died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, at The Orchard Arbor Nursing Home in Ridgeland, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Her body was donated to science. Franklin Funeral Home of Meadville is in charge of services. She was a retired diaconal minister of the United Methodist Church and was on the staff of the board of descipleship in Nashville, Tenn., for 25 years. Survivors include one sister, Edith Dennard of Macon, Ga.; four brothers, Hollis Youngblood of Lexington, N.C., Wesley Youngblood of Hernando, Claude Youngblood and Edward Youngblood of Meadville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Doris Marie Calhoun Harding –May 17, 1948 – Aug. 3, 2000 MAYWOOD, Ill. – Services for Doris Marie Calhoun Harding of Illinois, who died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, will be at 11 a.m. today at Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Marvin Wiley officiating. Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery in Illinois under the direction of Wallace Broadview Funeral Home in Illinois. Harding was born May 17, 1948, in Natchez, the daughter of the Rev. Julius Calhoun and Annie Calhoun. She was baptized at an early age at Pleasant Green Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school secretary and sang in the youth choir for many years. She was a 1970 graduate of Alcorn State College and taught school in Woodville for three years before moving to Chicago in 1973. In October of 1992 she joined the Rock of Ages Missionary Baptist Church where she sang with the chancellor choir. Mrs. Harding worked for Sharon Pipping, Inc. Survivors include her parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Julius Calhoun of Natchez; her husband, Irving Harding of Maywood; her son, Lt. Stephen Charles Harding and his wife, Deborah of Scott Air Force Base in Collinsville; her daughter, Erica Rousseau and her husband, Giuseppe of Maywood; four grandsons, Stephen Scott Harding, Michel Aric Harding, Andre Christopher Harris and Deion Eric Harris; two brothers, Bishop James Calhoun and his wife, Angeree of Natchez and Julius Calhoun Jr. of St. Louis; four sisters and their husbands, Berta and Theodore Yancy of Maywood, Lyndel and Jackie Robinson , Patricia and Charles Taylor, all of St. Louis and Brenda and Clarence Hardin of Natchez; friends, Maggie and Lewis Lawson; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Bishop J. Calhoun, Jackie Robinson, Paul Hardin, Julius Calhoun Jr., Charles Taylor and Theodore Yancy.
Edward Ray Christmas –March 14, 1940 – Aug. 3, 2000 NEW ORLEANS – Services for Edward Ray &uot;Baby Ray&uot; Christmas, 60, of New Orleans who died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, in New Orleans, will be at 11 a.m. today at Guilding Light Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. G.R. Washington officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans under the direction of Wilson Mortuary, Inc. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church. Mr. Christmas was born March 14, 1940, in Natchez, the son of Martin and Frances Christmas Carter. He was a graduate of S.V. Thompson and a retired chauffeur. He was a Baptist deacon and member of the Baptist brotherhood. Survivors include his grandparents, James W. and Rosie Pearl Christmas; his wife, Mildred Christmas; three daughters, Dana Christmas Lockhart, Lowanda Christmas Phillips and Lisa C. Christmas, all of New Orleans; one son, Edward R. Christmas Jr. of New Orleans; three brothers, Melvin Carter of Natchez, Rickey J. Carter and Ernest Carter of New Orleans; three sisters, Dorothy &uot;Ouebell&uot; Carter and Jessie B. Carter of Natchez and Gloriasteen Bell of Clayton; three aunts, Annie M. Christmas and Beactrice Ransom of Natchez and Margarte Christmas of New Orleans; one uncle and his wife, Charles and Deloris Christmas of New Orleans; and one grandchild, Charmaine Phillips of New Orleans. Lottie Duck Sampson –Nov. 11, 1903 – Aug. 3, 2000 FAYETTE – Services for Lottie Duck Sampson, 96, of Harriston, who died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Locust Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jessie Brown and Elder Anthony Berry officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home. Visitation is from 2 to 7 p.m. with a family hour from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Mrs. Sampson was born Nov. 11, 1903, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Jennie and Joe Lone Duck. She joined Salem Baptist Church at an early age and later changed her membership to Locust Grove Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mountain Valley No. 29. Mrs. Sampson was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Sampson; her parents; four children, Bernice Sampson Stampley, Helen Sampson, Hilda Marie Sampson and Joe Lone Sampson. Survivors include three sons, Henry and his wife, Dorothy Sampson of Chicago, Burnell and Rivers Sampson of Fayette; two daughters, Delores Sampson and her husband, Thomas Scott of Seal Beach, Calif. and Willa Sampson of Lansing, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Henry Calvin Sampson, Dennis Stampley, Dale Sampson, Carolyn Sampson, Linda Faye Sampson, Shonda Scott, Tameka Scott, Sean Sampson and Erica Cushingberry; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Belt of Monroe, La.; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Sampson of Fayette; friend, Mattie Cadney of Fayette; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carol Adams Bartlett –Feb. 18, 1952 – Aug. 8, 2000 Services for Carol Adams Bartlett, 48, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Natchez First Baptist Church with the Rev. Odean Puckett and Rev. Dan Wynn officiating. Burial will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, La., under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Mrs. Bartlett was born Feb. 18, 1952, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Arthur and Jane Powell Adams. She grew up in Monroe, La. where she graduated from Neville High School and she earned a degree from Louisiana Tech University. She was employed with Community Hospital as Human Resources Director for 25 years. She was a member of Natchez First Baptist Church. Mrs. Bartlett was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Powell Adams. Survivors include her husband, Chuck Bartlett of Natchez; three children, Janie Maria Irvin, Brad Irvin and his wife, Beth, all of Natchez, and Stephanie Bartlett of Knoxville, Tenn.; his father, Dr. Art Adams of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; a brother, David Adams of Monroe. Pallbearers will be Bill Rice, Billy Pryon, Ken Moss, Charles Carpenter, Glenn Mizell and Kim Fuller. Eris Travis Baker –Dec. 2, 1923 – Aug. 11, 2000 Graveside services for Eris Travis Baker, 76, of Slidell, La., who died Monday, Aug. 8, 2000, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Natchez City Cemetery with Father Sam Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Mrs. Baker was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Lexington, the daughter of Darius Gomer and Anabelle Dodds Travis. Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Holiday Fleming Baker Jr. Survivors include two sons, Paul H.F. Baker of Lafayette, La. and Jeffery T. Baker and his wife, Judy of Slidell, La.; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Baker of Lafayette and Judy Marie Baker and Holly Baker of Slidell; one grandson, Jeffery Baker Jr. of Slidell. Mary Katherine McManus –June 16, 1929 – Aug. 8, 2000 Services for Mary Katherine McManus, 71, of Smithdale, who died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, in Smithdale, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Case officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. McManus was born June 16, 1929, in Wilkinson County, the daughter of Hiram Judson and Mary Juanita Wisner Ashley. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Franklin County. Mrs. McManus was preceded in death by four brothers, W.J. Ashley, Billy Wayne Ashley, James E. Ashley and Kennon Ashley. Survivors include her husband, Troy McManus of Smithdale; two daughters, Cheryl Dianne Mullins and Lois Kay Mullins of Natchez; one son, Shelby Keith Smith of Natchez; five grandchildren, Shelbi Kimball of Brookhaven, Brandon Mullins of Biloxi, Micki Dossett, Ginny Smith and Laura Lee Smith, all of Natchez; eight great-grandchildren, Alli Kimball, Paige Kimball, Christopher Kimball, Luke Kimball, Colby Kimball and Hannah Kimball, all of Brookhaven, Kristian Mullins and Ashley Mullins of Biloxi; one brother, Arlie Ashley of St. Stevens, Ala.; one sister, Nelma Lee Murray of Crosby; and two step-children, Debra Byrne and her husband, Bill of Natchez and Darrell McManus of Smithdale.
