Under an overcast sky and with an unexpectedly cool breeze at their backs, the team of Cookie Wilson and Larry Davis defeated Tom Geoghegan and Chuck Fields on the first playoff hole to win the Championship Flight of the 10th Annual Mystic Krewe of Alpheus Golf Tournament Saturday at Duncan Park.
Flights were determined by how many points each team had on the back nine.
The cool weather made playing conditions easier than expected for the 34 players.
Both teams finished regulation play with 31 points, which forced the play off.
&uot;We made two long putts that were pretty long,&uot; Larry Davis said. &uot;My partner then got the shanks and didn’t help me the last two holes. We had two eagle putts lip out.&uot;
On the playoff hole, Davis, using a 1-iron, hit his shot on the green and left a long putt for eagle and the win.
Gil Johnson and Conner Robson came in first place in the First Flight with 27 points.
Carl Sayers and Sammy Bourque came in first place in the Second Flight with 20 points.
&uot;This tournament started as a fund-raiser for the Krewe of Alpheus,&uot; said Price, the tournament director.
&uot;Instead of a general fund-raiser, some of the proceeds have gone to Pleasant Acre Day School for several years. It’s our adopted charity.&uot;
Price presented Mary Ann Foggo-Eidt, director of Pleasant Acre Day School, with a $500 check.
