Centreville defense tops WCCA

CENTREVILLE — Centreville Academy’s defense forced three turnovers and B.J. Robertson ran for two touchdowns as the Tigers defeated Wilkinson County Christian Academy 20-6 Friday night at Centreville.
Robertson scored from one yard out in the first quarter and Royce Fonte added the extra point for a 7-0 lead. Johnathan Newman scored on an eight-yard run in the second quarter for a 13-0 halftime lead.
Robertson’s second touchdown came in the third quarter on a three-yard run. Fonte’s extra point gave the Tigers a 20-0 lead. WCCA’s only score came with 25 seconds left in the game on a six-yard run by Shannon Day, who led the Rams in rushing with 61 yards on 14 carries.
&uot;I felt like we played very poorly in the first half,&uot; said WCCA head coach Warren Whitaker. &uot;We had some players that couldn’t play because of injuries. We hurt ourselves with turnovers. … But we played a little better in the second half.&uot;
