Josh Hoffpauir already has a busy day planned.

After playing the last game of the Rookie League season as an Oakland A farmhand, Hoffpauir was to head home Wednesday to continue his college education at the University of Southern Missippi.

His last game began at 8:30 a.m. in Scottsdale, Ariz., and his flight home left at 1 p.m.

But in the seventh inning of what he thought was the last game of his season, his coach gave him a little something extra to do yesterday.

Hoffpauir was called up to the Oakland A’s Class A team in Vancouver, where he will play the rest of the season, according to his father,Vidalia resident Johnny Hoffpauir.

The younger Hoffpauir left for Vancouver soon after his Wednesday morning game, and played in a Vancover game at 7:30 that night.

His promotion was well-earned, as Hoffpauir was selected the Most Valuable Player of his Arizona team, and was named to the Rookie League All-Star Team.

A Vidalia native, Hoffpauir played for Vidalia High School before playing at Northwestern University in Natchitoches, La., and later transferring to Southern Miss.

Hoffpauir signed with the A’s in early June.
