Deanna Butts allowed only one hit and walked three in three innings for the win. She also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and had one run batted in. Delisa Lewis pitched one inning of one-hit relief.

&uot;Our defense was pretty good tonight,&uot; said Natchez head coach Sue Johnson. &uot;We communicated. We talked.&uot;

Butts got off to a terrible start as she walked the first two batters she faced in the top of the first inning, but Jim Hill was unable to take advantage of the situation.

Natchez would then score three runs in the bottom of the first.

Leslie Patrick singled, went to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kelly Fuller. After Butts went to second on another error, Sylvester hit her first inside-the-park home run for a 3-0 lead.

&uot;It (hitting) was a little better,&uot; Johnson said. &uot;We’re getting there.&uot;

Jim Hill had two runners on in the top of the third inning, but again was not able to score.

Butts’ RBI double and Sylvester’s two-run sacrifice fly made the score 6-0 after three innings. Natchez scored seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Althea Woodley, Lewis and Sherell Fitzgerald scored on a three-base error that got Miracle Calcote to third. Calcote scored on a RBI groundout by Patrick.

Kelly Fuller singled, went to third on a double by Butts and scored on another error that sent Butts to third.

Sylvester, who was 2-for-3, then hit her second inside-the-park homer for a 13-0 lead.

With one out, Chrystal Brown hit a high fly ball which Harper caught for the second out, but collided with Slaughter and both were down for several minutes before an ambulance arrived.

&uot;Nobody would like to see that,&uot; said Johnson about the collision.

Harper took the loss for Jim Hill as she gave up nine earned runs on seven hits and walked five. Jim Hill’s only hit were a single in the first and a single in the fourth.

Natchez (4-3 overall, 2-0 district) will host Amite County in a doubleheader on Tuesday, Sept. 5 beginning at 5 p.m.
