Natchez falls to Vicksburg

VICKSBURG – The Natchez Bulldogs lost their second straight game Friday when they were defeated by Vicksburg 28-6.

Natchez scored first on a 15-yard pass to Terry Jones from Donald Butler in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs did not score again.

&uot;They never really shut us down, so to speak,&uot; Natchez head coach Elbert &uot;Mo&uot; Lyles. &uot;We just made some mental errors.&uot;

Those errors included 19 penalties for 140 yards. Ten penalties were for false starts, seven of those coming in the first half.

&uot;I think we had more penalties in this game than we had in the first two combined,&uot; Lyles said.

Butler led the Bulldogs in rushing with 122 yards on 13 carries. Passing, Butler was 14 of 32 for 188 yards.

Carl Butler led the team in receiving, hauling in four catches for 67 yards.

&uot;We knew Vicksburg had a good a ball club, but we thought we had a chance to beat them,&uot; Lyles said.

Natchez travels to Biloxi next week.
