Biloxi Indians hand Bulldogs third loss

BILOXI — Tailback Josh Leonard rushed for 104 yards and scored a touchdown as Biloxi routed Natchez 36-13 on Friday night at Yankie Stadium.
Leonard was part of a Biloxi (2-2) running attack that gained 275 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns against the Bulldogs (1-3).
&uot;We wanted to come out and be more effective against Natchez,&uot; said Leonard, who also blocked a punt. &uot;We knew they would key on stopping our quarterback Rophyel Howell.&uot;
Two minutes into the game, Natchez took a 7-0 lead on quarterback Donald Butler’s 73-yard touchdown pass to split end Carl Butler.
The Indians responded by scoring 20 first quarter points to take a 20-7 lead as Howell accounted for two touchdowns.
&160;&160;The Indians’ only scoring in the second quarter was Brandon Moore’s 22-yard field goal, extending their lead to 23-7.
&160;Natchez trimmed the Indians’ lead to 23-13 at halftime as Donald Butler threw a 30-yard TD strike to tailback Roderick Conner.
&160;The Indians outscored Natchez 13-0 in the second half for their second straight victory.
&160;&160;&160;Biloxi’s defense did an excellent job in slowing down Donald Butler, who misfired on 15 of 27 attempts for 196 yards and two TDs.
