Trojans’ defense scores win

Strong defense was the key to the Ferriday Trojans’ 36-0 victory over the Northeast Vikings Friday.

Ferriday head coach James McFarland said his defense helped out on a night when the offense was sluggish.

&uot;We had strong defense,&uot; McFarland. &uot;And the offense was playing kind of flat.&uot;

The Trojans’ defense held Northeast to 160 yards rushing and no yards passing.

Ferriday’s first score came with 6:45 left in the first quarter when Brennan Smith hit Lawrence Washington on a 13-yard fade pattern in the end zone.

The extra point failed and Ferriday led 6-0.

The Vikings’ only highlight came when Gary Davis returned the ensuing kickoff 50 yards to midfield.

But two plays later Stanley Smith started the Trojans’ defensive fire with an interception.

Smith lead the Trojans in tackles with 12 solo tackles, nine assists, two caused fumbles and one interception.

The first quarter ended with the Trojans on top 6-0.

Th second quarter was tough for the Vikings’ offense as the Trojans defense took two fumbles into the endzone.

Dayton Davis caused the first fumble and Fred Jones grabbed the loose ball and ran 30 yards for the score.

After a Trojan punt pinned the Vikings on their own one yard line, Willie Glasper fell on a loose ball in the endzone to give the Trojans their second defensive score.

The Trojans final touchdown came when Tyrrence Taylor hit Nathaniel Smith for a 45-yard touchdown.

Trojan Cory Gordon carried the ball 17 times for 132 yards.

Tyrrence Taylor was 10-17 for 172 yards passing.

Ferriday plays Marksville in Ferriday next week.
