Natchez team falls short of finals in state mixed doubles championship

The Natchez 6.5 level Mixed Doubles team came up a little short in its effort to reach the finals of its division Sunday in the USA Adult League State Mixed Doubles Championship Tournament at Duncan Park.
The Natchez team, Johnson Southwest, fell to Parsons of Jackson 2-1 in the semifinals, which were played in the morning.
Robert Hartness and Karen Partridge defeated Brent Stephens and Elizabeth Farris, 6-1, 6-2 for the lone Natchez win of the match.
Clara Parsons and Shay Savell defeated Charles Ferrara and Brenda Johnson, 7-5, 6-3.
Cathy Hancock and Scott Rhodes defeated Michael and Karen Blain, 6-4, 6-3.
In the 6.5 level finals, Solomon, of the Delta region, defeated Parsons 2-1.
Solomon’s Robin Toler and Bill Brown defeated Parsons’ Lynn Andries and Stephens, 6-3, 6-1.
Parsons’ team of Parsons and Savell defeated Solomon’s Deann Brown and Mike Francis, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6 in the tiebreaker).
Solomon’s Loi Swoope and Kyle McClure defeated Parsons’ team of Hancock and Rhodes, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0.
In the 5.5 level division finals, DeLoach, also of the Delta region, defeated Bounds, of the Pine Belt region, 3-0.
The match of this division finals saw DeLoach’s Jeff Azlin and Penny Lucas defeat Bounds’ Greg Butler, 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (9-7 in the tiebreaker).
In the 7.5 level division finals, Griffin, of the East Central region, defeated one team from Joyner, of Jackson, 3-0.
In the 8.5 level division finals, another team from Joyner defeated Nevels, also of the East Central region, 2-1.
In the 9.5 Round Robin division, Roberts, also of Jackson, won three matches to win the division.
