Trojans’ defense wants another shut-out

FERRIDAY, La. – The undefeated Ferriday Trojans take to the road Friday to face Farmerville, a team that Ferriday head coach James McFarland said will use a power running attack to test the Trojans’ stingy defense.
&uot;They run a lot of power stuff,&uot; he said. &uot;Double tight end power I, double tight two receivers, things like that.&uot;
McFarland said his defense will key on two Farmers in particular.
&uot;They have a quarterback and a tailback who run real well. They run right at you,&uot; he said. &uot;We’ll have to stop those two folks.&uot;
If anyone can stop them, Ferriday’s defense can. Last week’s 46-0 win over Crowville was the Trojans fourth shut-out of the year.
&uot;We play with a lot of pride,&uot; McFarland said. &uot;At this point, we don’t want to see anyone gain any yards on us. That’s what makes us work so hard.&uot;
Ferriday (6-0, 1-0) will be for the most part healthy for the non-district game.
&uot;We’ve got the normal bumps and bruises, but I’d say we’re 95 percent healthy as a team,&uot; McFarland said.
Running back Cory Gordon, who missed a game and a half with a knee injury, earned 288 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries in his first full game back last week.
&uot;I didn’t see anything last week that was giving his knee any trouble,&uot; McFarland said. &uot;But winning eases pain.&uot;
And Ferriday has had little trouble winning, something that McFarland hopes doesn’t make his team complacent or lazy.
&uot;I haven’t seen any problems yet,&uot; he said. &uot;I’ve talked to the players, and everybody wants to win. That’s what we’re looking for.&uot;
Farmerville’s record is 4-2.
