It is rare for two teams from the same school to battle for a championship in any sport.
But that’s exactly what will be taking place at 7 p.m. Saturday when two 4th-6th grade football teams from Adams County Christian School – the Johnny Rebels and the Rebels – take on each other in the Athletic Youth Association Super Bowl.
The game will take place at the ACCS Rebel Football Field.
Both teams went through the regular season undefeated at 5-0.
Byrnsie Marks, who coached the offense for both teams during the regular season, will coach the Johnny Rebels and Glenn Carroll, who coached both teams’ defense, will coach the Rebels.
&uot;I think the team that’s going to win the game will be the one that doesn’t fumble, doesn’t make the mental mistakes and runs and blocks the hardest,&uot; Marks said.
Carroll, on the other hand, said the game will be decided by the defenses.
&uot;They all know the same plays and run the same plays,&uot; Carroll said.
Carroll has understandibly mixed feelings about the game.
&uot;I’m looking forward to it, but I’m dreading it too. We’ve coached the teams all year and don’t want to see each other lose.&uot;
Marks said that he likes coaching both teams, and &uot;it’s a shame that one of them has to lose.&uot;
