LOS ANGELES — Services for Eli Carter Jr., 87, of Los Angeles formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, in Los Angeles, were held Monday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Quenton Berry officiating.
Burial was at Inglewood Park Cemetery in Inglewood, Calif., under the direction of Angelus Funeral Home.
Mr. Carter was born April 18, 1913, in Louisiana, the son of Eli and Ruth Ann Minor Carter.
He was a 34-year retiree of Leur Packing Company, a member of St. James Community Baptist Church in Los Angeles and a former member of Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Survivors include eight children, Estelle, Rita, James, Amber, Gregory, Paul, Donna and Kelvin; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers and their wives, the Rev. O.A. and Augusta, Edward L. and Willena, Theodore and Camille, all of Los Angeles, and Robert L. Carter of Natchez; one sister, Katie Ruth Smith of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Edward L. Carter Jr., Theodore Carter Jr., Clarence Carter, Gregory Carter, Tyree Byrd and Walter Jenkins.
Honorary pallbearers were his nephews.
